Young Designer of the Year: Jacqueline Tan Co
In short
Commercial Interior Design gave its cover to Jacqueline Tan Co, senior interior designer in LW’s Hong Kong studio, as Young Designer of the Year 2021. She was asleep in another time zone when the award was announced and assumed the messages piling up on her phone meant something had gone wrong on a project; Pooja Shah-Mulani filmed the ceremony and sent it to her. The piece matters here for a structural reason as much as a human one: it is evidence of the Hong Kong studio producing award-winning work, and Hong Kong is the studio lw.co says least about.

Why does this page exist?
Because the Hong Kong studio has the thinnest published record of the four and the strongest single piece of external evidence about it is this cover. The article traces Tan Co back to arriving in Hong Kong as a graduate handing out her CV, and finds her returning to the same city as an award winner — which is a better argument for the studio than any description of it.
